10 Ways to Achieve a Youthful Glow in Midlife

At this time of our lives, many of us are eager to restore our vibrant and youthful glow. I mean, who wouldn’t want that?! Menopause can be a tough game if we won’t empower ourselves with enough know-how!

As a woman in midlife, I’m aching to let all women know two of the simplest, yet valuable lessons I’ve learned in my own experience… PERSPECTIVE and PRACTICALITY.

Yup, I mentioned “perspective” first. We need to realize how powerful our mind is! EVERYTHING STARTS IN THE WAY WE THINK. If we choose to see menopause as the end of life’s long and winding road, then it will really manifest that way! You will lack the motivation to work on yourself and manage the symptoms you’re feeling — not to mention that there’s a handful of them!

In contrast, if we plant the beautiful seed of a proactive mindset in our minds, that’s where all the fruitful magic begins! You start to take control of the situation, you take things easy and you take menopause as an opportunity to invest more time in yourself! You begin to be more practical and take wise actions. And everything else follows like a smooth, silky satin!

You see, you cannot make a move if you don’t have a good direction. Practicality and helpful actions can only follow if you have established a strong, hopeful outlook! Or else, your time, effort and even money will all be thrown away into thin air.

There’s no reason to dwell on a troublesome perspective because our looks reflect how we feel! THE KEY TO ACHIEVE A BRIGHT, GLORIOUS GLOW IS TO MAKE IT START FROM WITHIN. ?

Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin

Is it all about having wrinkle-free skin? A flawless complexion? A spotless beauty?

Undoubtedly, these are all wonderful things to desire and fulfill ourselves with. There’s a different sense of satisfaction whenever we step out of the house and feel confidently pretty, isn’t it?

As the fancy American jeweler, Harry Winston, said, “People will stare… Make it worth their while.” But is it really all about minding other people’s opinions?
Physical beauty could definitely make midlife a more wonderful, worthwhile experience. But INNER PEACE AND BEAUTY will make you feel like you have never aged at all!

The definition of beauty and glowing lies in you. Make it deep-rooted that nothing can ever take it away from you — not a single opinion, criticism or disapproval. The moment you instill an indestructible sense of beauty, you will start oozing with a relentless glow — the kind of radiance that speaks of beauty and feminine strength. ?

Now that we have established a robust and sensible perspective, what are the natural ways we can take to achieve that youthful glow we always wanted? ? Read on and be armed with these practical tips!

10 Most Natural Ways to Look Younger in Menopause

1. Maintain a Healthy Diet

Eating a healthy diet probably stands as the most basic rule to maintain optimal health. Whether it’s for disease prevention, helping treat a particular health condition or simply giving your immune system an excellent boost, food must be a top priority. Especially in midlife, where we can be vulnerable to almost everything, our body needs sufficient support from essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals!

Consequently, you can keep your skin looking young by getting extra aid from collagen-rich foods such as dark leafy greens, eggs and bone broth! Bone broth is known as the most natural, rich and delicious source of collagen. Wondering how to make it? Learn how and know more about bone broth as the ultimate immune support in midlife from our article here! ?

2. Stay Active

Anything that promotes healthy circulation also helps keep your skin healthy and vibrant“, says Dr. Ellen Marmur, an associate professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. As a widely known fact, exercising increases blood flow — resulting in our skin cells’ nourishment! Since blood carries oxygen, it brings vital nutrients to the cells throughout the body, including our skin! ?

Need I say more? Staying active in midlife, just like maintaining a healthy diet, boosts your overall health. PLUS, it promotes healthy skin too! Exercising can be of great help as it naturally decreases stress levels, particularly for those who are prone to stress-induced skin problems such as acne and eczema!

Personally, I start my day with rebounding. It is one of the most worth-it investments I have ever made for my midlife health! I find it a perfect exercise because you can easily get on it at any time of the day. It provides just the right amount of impact for the body, keeps your blood moving and most of all… MAKES YOU FEEL LIKE A CHILD! ? See our article to know more about its benefits and get started! ?

3. Go for Natural Products

And why is it important to use NATURAL products only? ?

Nowadays, many skincare products and cosmetics contain harmful chemicals that can outweigh the benefits we’re supposed to get. So, we need to be very mindful about this!

Many products contain “bad estrogen” or “xenoestrogens” which can get in the way of our estrogen receptors. When these receptors get interfered, it may result in having too much estrogen in our body and eventually develop to estrogen dominance! When our hormones go out of balance, other menopause symptoms can start to appear or worsen.

You can find more elaborate discussions about xenoestrogens in our article here: ?

How Do Xenoestrogens Affect Menopause?

Going for natural products is the best way to achieve that youthful glow while making sure you are not intoxicating your body! Below are my personal go-to natural products that never let me down.

Almond Oil

I use almond oil for my face! It provides moisture and nourishment for facial skin. Almond oil also fights linings, wrinkles and other signs of aging. The antioxidant properties present in almond oil makes sure that you do not lose that young, radiant skin rapidly as you age!

Sesame Oil

For my body, I use sesame oil! Sesame oil contains vitamin E, which can help protect skin cells from damage caused by environmental factors like UV rays, pollution and toxins. Sesame oil is also rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties!

Castor Oil

Castor oil is excellent for removing make-up! It can also help fight acne and offers countless benefits for midlife health. Discover these benefits through our article here! ?

Coconut Oil

This oil can work as a moisturizer for the body, reduce inflammation and help heal wounds faster! Coconut oil is also one of many women’s natural remedy for vaginal dryness. Did I just go off-topic? 4. Dry Brush

Heard about dry brushing?

As the name suggests, dry brushing is achieved by literally brushing your skin while it’s dry, using a dry brush! It is mainly done to exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin, giving it that fresher and younger glow! It also helps stimulate the lymphatic system, detoxifies the body, enhances blood circulation, boosts the immune system and even relieves stress! ?

Also, you don’t have to go to an expensive spa or skin center to get a dry brushing service… You can do it at home! I use a small dry brush for my face, but the best option is to go for a package with different sizes for your very own full spa experience! ?

5. Meditate

“Correct your mind and the rest of your life will fall into place.” These were the powerful words of Lao Tzu, an ancient Chinese philosopher and poet.

Sometimes, the troubles of our mind are all self-made. I mean, our worries could be reasonable, but some of them are merely influenced by our roller-coaster hormones!
Dear woman, it is therefore important to learn how to pop that bubble of clouded thoughts. One of the best ways to do so is by meditating!

In meditation, we get to discover our inner selves and confront our stresses. We face them, accept them or set them aside one by one! Meditation can be in the form of yoga, writing, exercising or prayer — anything that makes you draw your inner strength, beauty and peace! ?

6. Be Sun-Kissed

It’s universally known that vitamin D is the veteran vitamin for skin health! The less known fact is that it is already inside our bodies… and we need a warm, natural kiss from the sun to stimulate and activate vitamin D!

Vitamin D naturally promotes healthy, glowing skin! It also reduces skin inflammation and irritation. Nowadays, many skincare products contain vitamin D. You can get it from a few food sources too, and it may come as a supplement. But as mentioned, the most natural and inexpensive way for you to get your own vitamin D dose is to be outside often! ?

To keep you guided on getting some sun safely, check out our article about vitamin D here! If you happened to live in regions where there isn’t much sun, this article is especially made for you too! ?

7. Keep Smiling

A sweet smile is probably the best make-up and accessory a woman could ever wear. PLUS, IT DOESN’T COST A SINGLE DOLLAR! ?

I understand though, the symptoms and worries we have during menopause can sometimes be too much. But wearing a sad or grumpy face won’t solve them either, would it?

Here’s a little trivia: Smiling can actually trick your brain and make it believe that you are happy (even if you’re not)! Smiling stimulates a chemical reaction in our brain that makes you glow and feel happier. Interesting, right? Fake it ‘til you make it, my friend!

Nothing feels better than a smile that naturally flows out of positivity. Here’s how a positive mindset can help make your journey so much easier! ?

8. Get Enough Sleep

Do you also get easily irritable during days that you don’t get enough sleep? If you answered yes, give me a high five. ?

Lack of sleep can indeed affect our mood, which makes it hard to smile and stay positive! But you are not alone — more than half of all menopausal women experience a decline in the quality and duration of sleep.

Other than its negative effects on our mood and emotions, poor sleep also affects us physically! According to Oxford Academic sleep deprivation causes the following outcomes to our appearance:

  • Hanging eyelids
  • Swollen eyes
  • Darker undereye circles
  • Paler skin
  • More wrinkles and fine lines
  • Droopy corners of the mouth

Well, worry not because I won’t present you with problems without an entailed solution! Visit our article here to find out 16 natural solutions for sleep deprivation during menopause! ?

9. Take Time to Breathe

We all know that breathing right gives balance and calmness. But I bet only a few of us really put that into practice! ?

Well, did you know that breathing properly can also result in a healthier glow? This is because of the improved blood circulation when you breathe the right way! The question is, how do we ensure that we are breathing correctly? ? Well, you can find immediate answers through our article here about good breathing techniques! ?

Good Breathing Technique to Lose Weight and Reduce Stress!

More than just keeping you at peace and easing menopause symptoms, breathing helps you reconnect with yourself. It makes you focus on your body and how you can support the most basic functions to improve your health!

10. Have Time for Things You’re Passionate About

Do you notice how someone’s face naturally lights up when she talks about things she’s passionate about? That’s exactly what I want for you too. ?

If it’s something that feels like fuel, giving you an unstoppable drive to live life with a purpose, DO IT MORE OFTEN. It could be cooking, painting, gardening, dancing, writing or whatever! Menopause is the best time for you to find time for yourself and reignite your interest in these things! ?

Even the ever-successful Oprah Winfrey says, “There is no greater gift you can give or receive, than to honor your calling. It’s why you were born. And how you become most truly alive”.

Takeaway

Nowadays, we’re living in a world where the standard for beauty is sky-high. You’re only going to be exhausted if you try to please people every day! There is more to life than being confined to people’s opinion of you. Spend less time in the mirror and more time feeling wonderful at midlife! The beauty of the face will fade as time goes, but the beauty of the heart will grow more as you mature. You create your own definition of beauty — MAKE IT YOUR REALITY. ?
