Who is Sarah Wilson?
Sarah Wilson is a long-time journalist for TV, magazine and newspaper for more than a decade. She suffered from Hashimoto’s disease that prompted her doctors to have her quit eating sugar. Sugar makes her condition worse and compromises her health terribly. What sugar does when it enters her body is trigger the imbalance of her stress hormones, levels and insulin. What can I eat?
Fruits? IQS mainly suggests for you to cut on these food items specially on the first few weeks of the program. Fruits have natural sugar in them and the program wants to train your body to quit sugar, even the sugar coming from fruits. You still get to have the nutrients from other fresh foods so yo don’t have to worry about missing nutrition from fruits. When the transition period is through, you will be reintroduced to fruits with very low amounts.
Coffee and Alcohol? Honestly, it’s optional! You have the choice to stop consuming them or not. However, the program suggests that you should limit your consumption, because they may strain the body while it undergoes detoxification. With the IQS program, they allow you to have a glass of red wine! Because, hey! being healthy doesn’t mean you should be deprived of eating or drinking the things that you love!
Chocolate? No need to feel guilty about this, but YES you can each chocolate! However, you have to know how to choose the right kind of chocolate to consume. The best chocolate to have if you are quitting sugar are those with at least 85% real Cacao chocolates and not highly processed cocoa. Cacao is the healthy version of Cocoa, since they have less sugar (around 1% sugar) and still have the nutritional values you can get out from the fruit.
Bread? The grains and carbohydrates used in breads often have low sugar contents so it is fine to have them in moderate amounts. When buying bread, it is best to check the label and look into its sugar content. Sugar that amounts at 4g/100g or less is acceptable in IQS. It is recommended to have breads like sourdough, rye, wholemeal, spelt, sprouted breads and paleo breads.
Gluten? It depends on your situation. If you have gluten sensitivity, it is best to keep away from gluten. But with the IQS program, it is up to you if you want to completely quit gluten while quitting sugar at the same time. You would want to be careful with buying gluten-free products in the market, though. Most of them have higher sugar content to make up for the absence of gluten and make it taste better.
